Bryher

Bryher is the smallest inhabited island with 327 acres and only 81 residents – but to make up for it, it has a vibrant community. The new community hall is proof of this fact. Visitors are always welcome to events. The Anglican Church of All Saints dates back to the 1750s.

The sea dominates everything on this island, from the rugged north with Shipman Head and Hell Bay to tranquil Rushy Bay and the clear water and soft white sand that is so close to Samson and the flats – which are a joy at low water.

Come to Hell Bay in a storm and you will understand why over the years there have been so many shipwrecks around the island. The men of Bryher were involved in many courageous rescues with their pilot gig over the years, especially the rescue of two men from the wreck of the Delaware on 20th March 1871.

Refreshments can be found in the Vine cafe, Fraggle Rock Bar and Cafe, the luxury of the Hell Bay Hotel, the Bryher Stores or homemade fudge from Veronica Farm Fudge Shop.
